Personal Life
Born on October 1, 1969 in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, Galifianakis was the 2nd of 3 children. He has an older brother, Greg, and a younger sister, Merritt. Galifianakis majored in communications at North Carolina State University. Failing a course before graduation, he moved to New York City to pursue acting, but ended up becoming a stand-up comedian. It wasn’t until rather recently that he became known in the acting world, and his life as a comedian is still going strong.

Critical Reception
While he probably won’t be winning any Oscars, Galifianakis has quickly received a wide fan base as one of the funniest comedic actors currently active. Nearly all of his roles have been relatively insignificant, mostly as someone who just appears for 1 or 2 scenes. His first big role was as Alan in The Hangover, which is where he earned his comedic stripes.
The Future
Galifianakis has a bright future ahead of him in comedy. Apart from his successful stand-up, he’s starring in the November 5 release Due Date with Robert Downey, Jr., Jamie Foxx, and Michelle Monaghan. Think The Hangover, only with more time in a car and the Robert Downey touch. In addition, he (and the rest of the main cast) is scheduled to shoot The Hangover 2; expect less originality, a few less laughs, and just as much money. Even with crappy, money making machines of sequels, I’m sure that over the next decade or two, Zach will make boatloads more hilarious movies, and I’ll probably see them all.
