The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Dumps Mary Jane and Other Spidey News

Spider-Man 2 Cast
My Photoshop Skills.
Mary Jane Watson
Well, it looks like the ever-growing cast of Marc Webb's webslinging sequel may have just shrunk a bit. Unfortunately for her, Shailene Woodley's filming schedule just freed itself up considerably. The startlet's role of Mary Jane Watson is chopped after a few days of shooting. Webb stated, "I made a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship." Any speculation of a potential love triangle between Spidey, Gwen, and MJ can be laid to rest for at least one more Spider-Man film. [Also, Spoilers:Gwen Stacey's death. Whoops, Spoilers.] While Webb was quick to heap praise on Woodley's talents, it remains in doubt that The Descendents actress will return.

Let the speculation for the recast begin!

Black Cat
Spiders are not necessarily monogamous.
Even though one character gets the boot, Felicity Jones may have let the proverbial cat out of the bag when describing her character. Jones says, "It's TOP secret. I can tell you that she's sort of on the baddie's side, but I can't explain much more than that." In the last article on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 we discussed the possibility of Jones playing Black Cat, and it looks as if that rumor may turn out to be true. Fellow film blogs are blowing up at this news as well. It seems as though the people are getting Jones to be Black Cat by sheer willpower. Which, in fact, is a pretty lame superpower.

Mystery Character
I can picture this in red.
While starlet Shailene Woodley will most likely leave the franchise, Spider-Man gets another fast-rising young actress, Sarah Gadon. Gadon has collaborated with the great-but-not-good-enough-for-the-Academy David Cronenberg in two of his films, A Dangerous Method and Cosmopolis. When the news broke that Gadon would be joining the webslinging franchise, webheads were immediately convinced that she was Woodley's replacement for the Mary Jane role.

However, Gadon would take to Twitter and quickly dispel that rumor.

So there's that.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will swing into theaters May 2, 2014 with a third and fourth installment already planned. Let's hope no one gets sick of superhero films in the near future...
